DAY ONE: San Juan to Ponce – 148 miles

  • Day 1: 155 miles through the following towns: San Juan, Carolina, Loíza, Río Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo, Ceiba, Naguabo, Humacao, Yabucoa, Maunabo, Patillas, Arroyo, Guayama, Salinas, Santa Isabel, Juana Díaz, & Ponce.

The first day of La Vuelta is the longest and the most challenging. It begins in historic Old San Juan and heads east past some of the most popular beaches in Puerto Rico to the breakfast rest stop in Luquillo famous for its proximity to the El Yunque National Rain Forest and the Blue Flag beach of Luquillo. From there, you will continue eastbound riding through Naguabo, Humacao and Yabucoa where the road will climb to the top of Camino Nuevo. Take a moment at the top to enjoy the view before a fast descent to lunch at the Punta Tuna lighthouse. Then it is a 60-mile spin to Ponce for dinner (on your own), dancing and/or a well-deserved night’s rest.
