Whether you choose Über or a taxi, transportation in Puerto Rico is convenient and
accessible, making it easy to begin your La Vuelta adventure!

ÜberX or ÜberXL

Since the summer of 2016, Über offers pick-up and drop-off services at Luis Muñoz
Marín International Airport (SJU):

After deplaning, proceed to the ground-level curbside and follow
the ‘Rideshare’ signs to the designated pick-up area.
If traveling with a bike, request an ÜberXL to ensure space for both you and your
bike.
Über operates 24/7 in Puerto Rico, and you can schedule a ride in advance using
your smartphone.

Über has been Puerto Rico’s only ridesharing company since summer 2016, making it
a reliable choice for all your transportation needs.

Calling Taxis

Taxis in Puerto Rico are typically 15-passenger air-conditioned vans, perfect for
accommodating luggage and bike boxes.

One-way fares to Old San Juan range between $20-$25, depending on your
destination.

Airport Options

The primary airport is Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in
Carolina, just 8 miles east of Old San Juan (15 minutes driving).
Alternative airports include:
o Mercedita Airport (PSE) in Ponce.
o Rafael Hernández International Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla.
Note: These airports are 65+ miles away from San Juan, making them
less convenient for event logistics.

Passport & ID Requirements

For U.S. Citizens: A passport is not required when traveling from the U.S.
mainland. A valid government-issued ID is necessary to clear TSA.
For International Travelers: A valid passport is required. Check entry
requirements with your local travel agent, the U.S. Embassy, or the official U.S.
State Department website.

Luggage Policy

Luggage Limit: Only one (1) piece of luggage is accepted.
Affiliated Hotels Only: Luggage will be delivered to affiliated hotels, including the headquarter hotel in San Juan. It will not be available at the finish line but will be waiting for you at your hotel.

we provide each rider with a unique number that will help us recognize you. It identifies you as an official rider in La Vuelta to other riders, police, etc. The bib number is required to be pinned to the back of your cycling jersey each day. Same goes with the helmet number, the bike number and the wristband provided at check-in.

Tires

Due to the varied nature of the roadways on the island, we recommend using puncture-resistant all-season tires. Minimum 25 mm are very popular among seasoned Vuelta riders and its the size we have been recommending since 2006. Many others use kevlar lining for extra protection and we strongly recommend all tires be at the maximum pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

Lights

Due to the early-morning departures, cyclists must have a white light affixed to the front of their bike, as well as a red light affixed (not blinking) to the back. Lights attached to helmets is also allowed. 500 lumens white lights in the front is STRONLY recommended.
